202 Creates is an exciting initiative here in Washington, DC, which supports the creative community. A subset of The DC Office of Cable Television, Film, Music & Entertainment (OCTFME) and the DC Commission on Arts and Humanities (CAH), 202 Creates was launched "to amplify and celebrate DC's creative culture. 202Creates has showcased the diversity of the artists, makers, & entrepreneurs who contribute to the District’s thriving creative industries and has engaged residents through activities & conversations curated by the District’s creative innovators that build the creative culture in all 8 Wards."
Last month, 202 Creates opened its doors to its first ever cohort of artists in residence, and I am happy to be one. During the course of this residency (spanning 3 months), I will be working on building a program of youth film workshops specifically for refugee youth in partnership with organizations internationally and here in DC. I have already met some very impressive artists and entrepreneurs, and have planned the first workshop in this series, which will take place this August in Berlin (more on this later).
Many thanks to 202Creates for their hospitality, and to the collaborative and generous members of my cohort, who are working on some exciting projects that you should definitely check out here!
